My name is Jackie Tilley and I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. I am a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association and the Australian Association of Holistic and Transpersonal Counsellors.

I have a Bachelor of Holistic Counselling and a Diploma of Transpersonal Counselling, which means I have been trained in the theories and practice of the mainstream counselling modalities, combined with further training in the areas of psychotherapy, sociology and spirituality.

‘Holistic’ literally means treating the whole person. We do this by looking at the client’s presenting mental health symptoms but also by exploring how the social, political, cultural and spiritual dimensions of the client’s life informs their here and now experience.

This means my clients are not restricted to just symptom management and instead can be empowered to become active change agents in their own lives.

My Holistic training has provided me with a well-rounded repertoire of tools and knowledge that I can offer my clients.

Some clients may present with a specific situation or problem and request short-term counselling to target their area of concern. Other clients may present to counselling with more complex or imbedded issues that may require longer-term therapy to get to the heart of their issue.

Either way, the client will always be in control of when to end therapy.

Often clients present with outward symptoms of inner turmoil, such as repetitive cycles of disappointment and dissatisfaction in their work and personal lives. I feel privileged to be a part of my client’s journey towards self-discovery, empowerment and life purpose.

It is incredibly rewarding for me to be witness to a client’s transformation and freedom from feelings of conflict or worry.

I provide counselling & psychotherapy support for adults and children experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief & Loss
  • Difficult Life-Transitions
  • Past Trauma
  • Stress
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Social and Emotional Issues

Therapeutic Interventions offered are Humanistic and Client-Centered at all times, because you are unique and so your treatment should be unique.

Counselling: to address specific areas of concern and assist with decision making and an improved sense of wellbeing.
Psychotherapy: to facilitate self-awareness and how your life journey influences your emotions and the quality of your here and now experience. Psychotherapy can also assist with the release of unconscious thoughts and beliefs that drive your behaviour and may no longer serve you.
Psychodynamic interventions: to shift blocked energy and emotion via ceremonial rituals, creative arts therapy, active imagination, focusing, dream analysis, guided visualization, mindfulness meditation, sandplay therapy, psychodrama and narrative therapy.

  • I am committed to supporting my clients to tap into their inner resources and harness their own awareness of obstacles preventing them from experiencing the wellbeing and quality of life they desire. By supporting the client to make an independent and informed choice regarding their available solutions, the client is empowered and self-directed in coming to terms with their past and creating a more satisfying here and now experience.
  • My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is holistic, humanistic and adheres to Rogerian values. Carl Rogers developed Client Centered therapy in the 1940’s and 1950’s and believed a non-directive therapeutic approach could facilitate growth and healing within the client. Rogers identified the relationship between client and therapist as being a vital aspect of successful therapy. ‘…Rogers made it clear that the client was the center of the therapeutic process and furthermore it was the client who had the final say as to whether the ‘therapist-provided conditions’ were actually provided (as apposed to being assumed by the therapist) (Sanders, 2006, p. 76). I feel Rogers respected the client as expert of their own life and preferred to explore their issues, rather than make assumptions.
